What is RideVox

RideVox is the world’s first planning, sharing, and real-time collaboration solution built for road cycling group rides.

In a group ride, the hardest part is often not whether everyone can ride, but whether everyone can stay in sync. Before departure, routes and meeting points can be hard to explain clearly. During the ride, the group can split because of traffic lights, climbs, refueling, flat tires, mechanical issues, or differences in fitness. Ride leaders and sweep riders cannot always know where everyone is, and riders should not keep pulling out the phone to type or check the map.

RideVox mainly solves these problems:

  • Before departure, you can create a ride activity and share it through social media to invite friends.
  • A ride activity includes the start time, meeting points, check-in time, GPX route file, ride terms, and important notes, bringing together the essential information for a ride.
  • After the ride starts, use Live Map to view teammate locations and team status.
  • Use Hold to Talk for real-time voice communication during the ride.
  • Use Rider Position Report to hear teammate distance, front/back position, and ride state, reducing the need to look down at the phone.
  • Use Quick Notifications to quickly tell teammates about a flat tire, crash, mechanical problem, feeling unwell, or needing a break.
  • We recommend using a Bluetooth button to talk, request Rider Position Report, and send quick notifications without looking down, improving safety and collaboration efficiency.

RideVox supports rides around the world. Even if your account was registered in the United States, you can join local RideVox rides when traveling to another country or continent. When creating a ride, choose a ride server close to the route to reduce network latency and improve voice, location, and collaboration quality.

Quick start

Sign up and sign in

When you open RideVox for the first time, sign up or sign in first.

The same input field on the sign-in screen supports both phone numbers and email addresses. Enter one, tap Continue, then follow the screen to sign in with a verification code or password.

If you do not have a RideVox account yet, the first verification-code sign-in with your phone number or email address automatically creates your account and signs you in.

If the verification code is invalid, the password is wrong, the network is unavailable, or the app says an update is required, follow the prompt before entering the home screen.

Join a ride organized by someone else

If someone sends you an invite code, tap Join ride on the home screen, enter Invite code, choose Rider or Observer, then tap Join. If you receive a share link, you can open the link directly.

If the ride requires accepting terms, read them and check I have read and agree to the ride terms. If the ride has multiple meeting points, confirm your meeting point on Ride details. You can only check in near the meeting point you chose.

Rider

Actually joins the ride. After the ride starts, uploads location for Live Map, teammate distance, and Rider Position Report.

Observer

Can join the ride and voice chat, but does not upload their own location.

Check in

If the ride has a meeting point, arrive near it before departure and tap Meeting point check-in or Check in. You must be inside the organizer’s check-in location range to check in.

If the ride has multiple meeting points, first confirm My meeting point on the screen. The check-in range, check-in window, and departure time all follow your selected meeting point.

Checked in: after the ride starts, the app can automatically start and enter this ride.

Not checked in: after the ride starts, you need to tap the active ride manually, then tap Enter ride.

If you chose Rider but did not check in before departure, you will automatically become an Observer when the ride starts. If you still need to upload location as a Rider, the ride organizer must change you back to Rider.

Create a ride

If you are organizing a ride, tap Create ride on the home screen.

When creating a ride, fill in Ride Name, set Start time, choose a Ride server close to the route, and set Meeting point. Add multiple meeting points if needed. You can also add a GPX route file, turn on organizer approval for join requests, set Check-in window and Check-in location range, and add ride terms and notes.

After creating the ride, copy the Invite code or use Share ride to send it to members. Before departure, confirm members and check-in status, then tap Start ride.

If you want family or friends to view only your live location, use Share my live location. This is different from Share ride: it is a read-only link mainly for people who are not joining the ride.

During the ride

After entering Active ride, the main RideVox features are Hold to Talk, Live Map, Rider Position Report, Quick Notifications, and Bluetooth button.

Hold to Talk: hold to start talking, release to stop.

Live Map: see your own location and teammates on the route.

Rider Position Report: hear teammate position, front/back distance, and ride state.

Quick Notifications: quickly send flat tire, crash, mechanical issue, feeling unwell, taking a break, and similar messages.

If you see Busy, wait, someone else is talking. Wait until they finish. If you see a voice sending error or a member shows Voice not connected, check network, microphone permission, audio output, and background state.

If the ride briefly loses network, the screen locks, the app goes to the background, or system audio is interrupted, RideVox will try to recover voice and location state. During recovery, Rider Position Report and Live Map may be briefly unavailable. When location is paused, you can usually still listen to voice. If the state is still abnormal after returning to the foreground, pull to refresh or re-enter the current active ride.

End or leave a ride

When the organizer taps End ride, the whole ride ends and all members leave the active ride.

Regular members can leave the current ride. After leaving, you exit this active ride and cannot join the same active ride again.

Subscription and updates

The 30-day trial starts automatically when you register your account. During the trial, RideVox Pro is available with unlimited ride organizing and participation. Each account or device can use the 30-day trial once.

After the trial ends, non-subscribed users can join a limited number of rides each month. Free allowance is calculated by account and current device. RideVox Pro allows unlimited ride organizing or participation.

Creating a ride draft usually does not consume free quota. Starting a ride, meeting point check-in, joining, or entering an already-started ride may check your free quota or subscription state. If the screen says your free ride quota is used up, the subscription is unavailable, or a purchase needs to be restored, open Subscription to check your trial, remaining quota, buy RideVox Pro, or tap Restore purchases.

If the app says an update is required, update the app before signing in, joining a ride, or starting a ride. Optional new versions may appear on the home screen. You can view the current app version in Settings.

Live location sharing

You can use Share my live location to send a read-only link to family, friends, or support crew.

Live location sharing only shows the sharer’s own location and track. It does not show teammates. Observers do not upload location, so they cannot be the source for shared live location.

You can stop sharing your live location. Live location sharing also ends when the ride ends.

Diagnostic logs

If you run into a problem while using RideVox, you can send diagnostic logs to RideVox. Diagnostic logs help us identify and fix the issue you encountered.

Diagnostic logs are at the bottom of Settings under Diagnostic logs. There you can Start diagnostic logging, Send diagnostic logs, and open Diagnostic log help, which explains when to send logs, what logs may include, and how to describe the issue when sending.

Device and permission checks

Bluetooth button

A Bluetooth button is not required. Without one, you can still use the on-screen Hold to Talk button.

But a Bluetooth button is strongly recommended. During road cycling, it is not convenient to keep looking at or tapping the phone. With a Bluetooth button, you can fully experience RideVox real-time ride collaboration: long-press to talk, short-press for Rider Position Report, and double-click for Rider Position Report or quick notifications without looking down.

The Bluetooth button Long press can only be used for Hold to Talk. Short press and Double click can be set to Report Group 1, Report Group 2, Quick Notification 1, or Quick Notification 2. By default, Short press uses Report Group 1 and Double click uses Report Group 2.

To configure a Bluetooth button, open Bluetooth button, tap Scan devices, choose the device, tap Connect and check, then tap Learn and follow the prompts for Short press, Double click, and Long press.

Microphone permission

Microphone permission affects Hold to Talk. If microphone permission is off, you can enter the ride and listen to voice, but you cannot speak.

The first time you use Hold to Talk, the system may request microphone permission. Allow RideVox to use the microphone. If you already denied it, reopen permission in system settings.

If microphone permission is turned off while talking, a phone call interrupts audio, a headset disconnects, or another app occupies system audio, the current talk may stop. After recovery, hold Hold to Talk again to speak.

Location permission

Location permission affects Meeting point check-in, active ride location upload, Live Map, and teammate distance reports.

Turn on system location services and allow RideVox to use location. If the system allows it, choose Always Allow for more stable lock-screen and background riding.

Background App Refresh

Background App Refresh affects RideVox state sync, voice, location, and notification reliability in the background and on the lock screen.

If the check screen says it needs to be enabled, open system settings and turn on Background App Refresh for RideVox.

Notification permission

Notification permission affects ride start reminders, ride end reminders, join requests, member changes, meeting point changes, and background state alerts.

Turning off notifications usually does not block foreground riding, but you may miss important alerts. Turn on system notification permission and confirm the RideVox notification master switch and related categories in Notification settings.

If network, permissions, and devices have all been checked but the issue remains, send diagnostic logs from Settings so RideVox can investigate.
